How to Use the Data Rollup to Upload Images
Before starting the upload process, we recommend that you consider how you want to name your images and drafting the image description (Describing Your Images) in advance, particularly if you have many images to submit. You will also want to have any relevant files you wish to attach to the image for informational purposes in a handy location.
We currently accept 105 image file types, including proprietary formats from Zeiss, Olympus, Leica, Nikon, and Metamorph, as well as more common image formats (.tif, .jpg, .png) and video formats (.mov, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg). We encourage you to submit raw data images for The Cell whenever possible. You will not need to provide most of the information about image acquisition if you can provide original data because our file system will be able to read it from the proprietary image header. Java Requirements
Uploading images to our annotation database requires you to download and use a Java-based application that will connect you to our server. You will need the most current version of Java, which you can download at:

Data Rollup Application
You can download the upload application, also known as the ASCB DataRollup application, at:

Unzip the ASCB Data Rollup folder, and open the "ASCBDataRollup" application.

Check the "Public login" box in the login screen (circled in red below). You will not need to enter a login or password.

On the left side of the window, navigate to the folder where your images are stored. Select individual images (using Ctrl-click or Shift-click), then press the "+" button in the center of the window. If you are selecting multiple images, please make sure that these images are from the same (or closely related) data sets, since they will all receive the same annotation in steps 4 through 9.

In the Input window that pops up, click the "Add" button next to the Folder input field, and type in a descriptive name for the images you have selected to upload. Make sure that new folder is selected. DO NOT SUBMIT THE IMAGE ITSELF AS AN ATTACHMENT.

Fill in the Image Description, Contact Information, and Attribution fields in the Input window. For the Image Description, please refer to the Tell Us About Your Images section above.

For the Attachments field please use the Browse button to navigate to and attach relevant documents to aid our annotators with the annotation. If the image has been published and you have the copyright you may submit a copy of the article. The article itself will not appear in the Library. If you have images that were created using the same Methods and Procedures as a published paper you may attach that paper as well. Please let us know if the images were published in the article or are experimentally related images.

When you are done filling in all the required fields, the Add to Queue button will become enabled. Click on "Add to Queue."

Repeat steps 3-9 until you have selected all the images you wish to upload.

In the ASCB DataRollup window, click "Upload."

You're done! Thank you for submitting your images! Please note that images will not appear immediately in the Library. The annotation process requires some time and just how long depends on how much information you can provide. Thank you again.
