Description

Surface of Coleps hirtus. Alveoli have longitudinal margins along the ciliary rows as well as lateral margins spaced at intervals of one or two basal bodies along the rows. Margins of adjacent alveoli form septa and pores pass through both the lateral and longitudinal septa. Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. TEM taken on 5/24/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at60kV. Print from negative scanned for Photoshop. Neg. 5,000X. Bar = 1µm. A print of the negative was scanned and processed in Photoshop. This image is best used for qualitative analysis. A high resolution image is available at (CIL:38830) and can be used for quantitative analysis.
