Description

High resolution transmission electron micrograph of a portion of the macronucleus of Opercularia coarctata containing irregularly shaped heterochromatin bodies and elliptical nucleoli. Ribosome-like precursors can be seen at the margins of the nucleoli.

Technical Details

TEM taken on 6/11/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at 60kV. Neg. 23,200X. This image is suitable for quantitative analysis. Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness.
