Description

3 -Prophase I of meiosis, zygotene substage in a diploid lily pollen mother cell. The nucleoli have fused into one large nucleulus which is disc shaped and pressed up against the nuclear envelope (right side of nucleus lower quadrant). Many of the chromosome ends can be seen just above and below the nucleolus, forming what is known as the "bouquet". In the top section of the image, near '12 o'clock' one can see regions of both close and more distant pairing of homologous chromosome regions.

Technical Details

Feulgen stained light microscopy image collected using a bright field zeiss microscope, using a 100X, N.A. 1.4 Neuflar lens.
