Description

Shown is a confocal microscopy image of a living isolated mouse neuron stained for DNA (nucleus, blue)and mitochondria (mitotracker, red, and the synthetic antioxidant XJB-5-131 labeled with BIODIPY-labeled (green). The image is from experiments examining oxidative damage and mitochondrial dysfunction in relation to aging and age-related neurodegenerative diseases including Huntington's disease. Technical Details

Cultures of living primary striatal neurons isolated from embryonic HD150Kl mice were stained for mitochondria using two fluorescent probes and imaged using a Zeiss LSM 710 confocal laser scanning confocal microscope. Probes were MitoTracker Deep Red excited at 633 nm and the antioxidant XJB-5-131 conjugated to BIODYP and excited at 488 nm. DNA was labeled with DAPI (blue). Images were acquired with Zen Zeiss) and analyzed with FIJI.
