Description

Figure 430 from Chapter 16 (Cytoplasmic matrix and cytoskeleton) of 'The Cell, 2nd Ed.' by Don W. Fawcett M.D. Flight muscle of the Drosophila melanogaster. Compared to striated muscle of vertebrates, flight muscle of insects have shorter I bands at rest, and longer A bands. Image by Hans Ris, University of Wisconsin HVEM Facility.
